Deutsch Connector Selection Guide
Step 1 - Circuit Amperage
Knowing the circuit amps is the first step in determining which connectors will best suit your application. Connectors are available in amperage ratings as follows:
DTM Series - 7.5 amps continuous
DT Series - 13 amps continuous
JS16-00 Jiffy Splice - 13 amps continuous
DTP and DTHD (Size 12) 25 amps continuous
JS12-00 Jiffy Splice - 25 amps continuous
DTHD (Size 8) 60 amps continuous
DTHD (Size 4) 100 amps continuous
JS4-00 Jiffy Spice - 100 amps continuous
Step 2 - Number of Contacts
How many contacts you will need? How many different wires do you have going through the connector? Deutsch refers to this as the number of cavities. Other common terminology would be number of circuits or whether it is a 2 way or 3 way etc.
DT and DTM Series in-line connectors are available with 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 or 12 contacts.
DT Flange Mount Series receptacles are available with 3, 4, 8, 12 or 48 contacts.
DTP Series connectors are available with 2 or 4 contacts.
DTP Flange Mount Series receptacles are available with 4 contacts.
DTHD Series connectors are single circuit connectors.
Jiffy Spices are an economical alternative for single circuits splices.
Step 3 - Pin Type
The last step is selecting the type of pins and sockets you prefer.
Pins and sockets, also referred to as "contacts", are the current carrying components of the assembled connector. Pins are used in connector Receptacles. Sockets are used in connector Plugs. Pin and socket choices are based on the size of the wire you are working with, the type of pin or socket (solid or stamped & formed) you prefer, and the application in which they are being used. For lighting, power and control circuits choose Nickel. For critical and very low voltage and amperage circuits such as Oxygen Sensors that operate at 0-1 volt or for Data Transmission circuits that operate at 5 volts, choose Gold. For more help in selecting the right pins and sockets see our Pin and Socket Guide.
