Crimp Tool Selection Guide

Choosing the Right Crimp Tool

Crimp tool selection is based on the type and size of the pin or socket you are using.

Crimp tools are available for Stamped and Formed (open barrel) pins and sockets as well as Solid (closed barrel) pins and sockets. The two different types of crimp tools are not interchangeable.

Something to consider when shopping for a crimp tool. The HDT-48-00 works with solid style pins and sockets and is the top of the line field crimp tool from Deutsch TE. The HDT-48-00 accommodates ALL solid pins and sockets for DT, DTM, DTP, Size 12 Jiffy Splice connectors, Size 12 DTHD connectors as well as Size 12, Size 16 and Size 20 cavities in Round Series connectors. None of the stamped and formed crimp tools can do that.

IMPORTANT - Solid style pins and sockets can be mixed with stamped and formed style pins and sockets within a connector Series. For example, if you are repairing an existing connector and the connector has stamped and formed style pins in it, you can use any pin from the same connector Series to make your repair. A repair to a DT04-2P can be made with any of the pins on the DT Series Pins and Sockets page. It doesn't matter if they are solid or stamped, nickel or gold, as long as they are correct for the wire gauge and insulation diameter you are using.

TIP - Solid style pins and sockets are the easiest to work with.
